Year 4 Students Set Sail Into the Past with Maritime Museum Excursion

Our Year 4 students from the Evanston Campus recently brought their HASS studies to life with an immersive excursion to the South Australian Maritime Museum.

As part of the Life on Board program, students stepped back in time to 1836, exploring what life was like for early European settlers making the long voyage from England to South Australia. Through hands-on exhibits and engaging storytelling, they discovered the conditions passengers faced on the ships — from cramped cabins and limited rations to the challenges of staying healthy and entertained during the journey.

The day continued with a river cruise aboard the historic Archie Badenoch vessel, where students cruised along the Port River, identifying maritime landmarks and deepening their understanding of South Australia’s rich seafaring history.

This excursion was a memorable learning experience, blending history, exploration and adventure in a way that brought classroom learning to life.
