Late in Term 2, a group of students travelled to and from Elizabeth using trains and buses as part of a valuable public transport training experience. Despite the wet and rainy weather, students enthusiastically explored the local area, becoming familiar with important community landmarks including the police station, courts, library, Shedley Theatre, Services SA, and CAMHS.

During the excursion, students had the opportunity to develop their money-handling and decision-making skills. One challenge involved purchasing a snack from Woolworths for less than $2, requiring students to budget carefully and communicate confidently with staff. After enjoying a movie, students were again responsible for purchasing their own lunch, providing further opportunities to make choices, interact with vendors, and manage money independently.

It was wonderful to see our senior students demonstrating responsibility and leadership by supporting younger students throughout the day. They modelled safe behaviour when crossing roads, encouraged confidence in making purchases, and helped create a positive and supportive environment for everyone involved.

The excursion was a great success, providing students with valuable real-world experiences while building independence, confidence, and everyday life skills.
