Socktober at Xavier College

Our Year 6 students at the Evanston Campus recently took part in Socktober, a special initiative by Catholic Mission that encourages students to learn about global issues and take action to support communities in need.

The week began with a visit from Tony Johnston from Catholic Mission, who spoke with students about the purpose behind Socktober and the difference it makes for children around the world. With Tony’s guidance, students created their own sockballs using recycled materials, a simple but powerful symbol of creativity, resilience, and community spirit inspired by the story of Pope Francis.

To round out the week, the Evanston Campus celebrated in style, with students wearing their brightest and funkiest socks and donating gold coins to raise funds for children in Zambia. These funds help provide access to food and education, supporting communities in building a brighter future.

Socktober is always a highlight of Term 4 at Xavier College, combining fun, faith, and social action in a way that reminds students of the impact they can have when they come together for a good cause.
