Reception Students Learn Traditional Aboriginal Dance
Our Reception students at the Evanston Campus have been exploring dances from around the world, learning about different cultures through movement, storytelling, and music.
As part of this learning, students were delighted to welcome Uncle Moogy Sumner, who shared his culture and introduced students to traditional Aboriginal dance. Through engaging stories and demonstrations, students gained a deeper appreciation for Aboriginal culture and the important role dance plays in sharing knowledge and connection.
A highlight of the visit was learning Kiriki – the Kite Hawk Dance, with students enthusiastically joining in and embracing the opportunity to learn new movements and cultural traditions.
Experiences such as these provide valuable opportunities for students to broaden their understanding of the world around them while developing respect for the rich cultural heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We extend our sincere thanks to Uncle Moogy for generously sharing his knowledge, culture, and passion with our students, making the experience both educational and memorable.
