Ash Wednesday

Today, the Xavier College community came together to mark the beginning of Lent with Ash Wednesday prayer services held across all campuses. This significant occasion calls for reflection, renewal, and spiritual growth as students and staff prepare for the Lenten season.

Lent has been part of the Church’s calendar in some form since the end of the 3rd century. Early Christians set aside this time to prepare for Easter through fasting, prayer, and self-discipline. It has always been about growing closer to God and getting ready to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection.

During the services, students and staff received the symbolic marking of ashes on their foreheads—a reminder of humility and the call to turn our hearts toward God. As we journey through Lent, may this time of spiritual reflection inspire the College community to strengthen their faith, support one another, and grow in grace and love.
