Students Headed to New South Wales to Represent SA in Softball

Three Xavier College students from the Gawler Belt Campus have been selected to represent South Australia in the 2025 School Sport Australia Softball Championships. Sienna (left), Tahlia (middle), and Tiahna (right) will travel interstate to Blacktown, New South Wales, in late May to compete in the 18 years and under division, aiming to help South Australia claim victory.

For Tiahna, this marks her first time competing at the state level, and she is both excited and nervous about the challenge ahead.

‘This is very exciting, but it being my first national competition, I am really nervous and scared for it—but it will be fun. I am looking forward to getting some nationals experience to make more state teams in the future,’ she said.

Tahlia, who has represented South Australia four times, and Sienna, who also has past state experience, bring valuable knowledge to the team. They noted that New South Wales has traditionally been a strong contender but believe their team has a real shot at success this year.

‘Most of the major players for New South Wales and Queensland that competed last year have aged out of this competition group, so that gives us a real chance, especially as I think we have a great team this year,’ Tahlia explained. ‘We finished third last year, so as long as we do better than that, I’ll be happy.’

The tournament will see the trio spend nearly a week in New South Wales, with four days of competition. This year marks Tiahna’s fourth year playing softball, Sienna’s seventh, and Tahlia’s ninth—bringing plenty of experience and determination to the field as they represent their state.

Xavier College are very proud of Sienna, Tahlia and Tiahna’s achievement, and wish them the best of luck in New South Wales this May.
