Gawler Belt Campus Takes Part in Rise Up: The 800 Challenge
This year, students at our Gawler Belt Campus embraced the opportunity to care for creation by participating in the Rise Up: The 800 Challenge, an initiative commemorating the 800th anniversary of the life of St Francis of Assisi.
The challenge invited schools to take meaningful action during the Season of Creation by completing a sustainability-focused mission centred on the theme of Living Water. Schools across South Australia were encouraged to undertake activities that promoted environmental stewardship and reflected the message of Laudato Si’, with the goal of reaching the number 800 in a creative and impactful way.
To support the challenge, our Gawler Belt Campus focused on energy conservation by turning off classroom lights during Oratory time. Over a two-week period, students and staff collectively achieved 800 minutes of power saving, demonstrating how small actions can contribute to caring for our common home.
The challenge provided students with an opportunity to put their faith into action, reflecting on the importance of sustainability and the role each person can play in protecting the environment. Through their participation, students demonstrated a commitment to responsible stewardship and the values promoted by St Francis of Assisi.
Congratulations to all students and staff involved in the initiative. Their efforts serve as a reminder that every action, no matter how small, can make a positive difference for our world.
