Year 5 Students Explore Healthy Living, History and Faith
Our Year 5 students recently enjoyed a fantastic day of learning and discovery, connecting several areas of their studies through a hands-on excursion around Adelaide.
As part of their upcoming Healthy Eating unit, students began the day at the Adelaide Central Market, where they were given a budget of $10 to put their decision-making and budgeting skills to the test. The challenge encouraged students to select healthy, balanced foods while considering value for money and nutritional choices.
Linking with their studies on migrants and missionaries, students then visited Saint Francis Xavier’s Cathedral, the oldest Catholic cathedral in Australia. Students attended Mass and demonstrated wonderful reverence and respect throughout the experience, gaining a deeper appreciation of the Cathedral’s historical and spiritual significance.
Following their visit, students returned to the market to purchase items with their own money before heading back to school for a shared morning tea. The opportunity to swap and sample each other’s purchases added an extra layer of fun while encouraging discussions about healthy food choices.
It was a wonderful day that brought together faith, history, and healthy living, providing students with meaningful real-world learning experiences and lasting memories.
