National Reconciliation Week 2026
Students across Xavier College recently participated in a range of meaningful activities to mark National Reconciliation Week 2026, deepening their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and contributions.
This year’s theme, All In, encourages all Australians to play their part in reconciliation, not only during National Reconciliation Week but throughout the year. Across our campuses, students embraced this message through learning experiences that promoted connection, respect, and cultural understanding.
Prayer services were held at each campus, providing opportunities for reflection and reaffirming our commitment to the ongoing journey of reconciliation.
At the Two Wells Campus, Year 4 students explored traditional foods by making damper using native ingredients, learning about their cultural significance and connection to Country. Students at the Gawler Belt Campus participated in a variety of traditional craft activities, including weaving, creating emu feather earrings, and other hands-on cultural experiences. Meanwhile, students at the Evanston Campus engaged in weaving and artwork inspired by First Nations cultures.
A highlight of the week was students from the Evanston and Gawler Belt campuses participating in yidaki lessons, where they learnt about the cultural significance of this important instrument and experienced its unique sounds firsthand.
National Reconciliation Week provided a valuable opportunity for students to learn, connect, and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. We look forward to continuing these conversations and experiences as we work together towards reconciliation.
