Music

There are a number of opportunities for students to be involved in music at Xavier College.

Professional instrumental teachers are available to teach a wide variety of instruments. Students opt, for an additional charge, to participate in these lessons. The lessons are rotated so that students don’t consistently come out of the same class. Advice about hiring instruments will be provided.

There are several bands which students are able to join: Little Big Band (a large performance group) various Rock Bands; a woodwind group called Presto; and Allegro, a vocal ensemble.

Every two years we stage a major musical at a commercial theatre and students are invited to perform in the orchestra formed especially for this event.

Other opportunities for live performance occur during lunch-time concerts; assemblies and liturgical celebrations. We hold a Battle of the Bands for rock groups and students  perform at competitions like the Balaklava Eisteddfod. We have begun visiting local primary schools and performing concerts for them.

A Clarinet program is run during Year 8 music classes to provide opportunities for new woodwind players to emerge.
